North Star 🌟

Image
Polaris , also called   Alpha Ursae Minoris , Earth ’s present northern polestar, or North Star, at the end of the “handle” of the so-called Little Dipper  in the constellation Ursa Minor .  It’s classed as supergiant star, which can be red or blue (North Star is light blue).  Pole Star  is a visual double star which can be observed only with the help of very large telescopes.  Thanks to its high brightness, Polaris is clearly visible when observed from locations with dark skyes, and should be also quite easily visible from light polluted areas.  Pole Star is famous for holding nearly still in our sky while the entire northern sky moves around it. That’s because it’s located very close to the north celestial pole , the point around which the entire northern sky turns.  Althoug  it’s a common belief, Polaris is  not  the brightest star in the nighttime sky. In fact, it’s only the 48th brightest star .  North Star  is distan...

Andromeda Galaxy 🌌

Image
The Andromeda Galaxy is barred spiral galaxy and the nearest major galaxy to us.  At one time, the Andromeda galaxy was called the Great Andromeda Nebula. Astronomers thought this patch of light was composed of glowing gases, or was perhaps a solar system in the process of formation.  It wasn’t until the 20th century that astronomers were able to resolve the Andromeda spiral nebula into individual stars.  The galaxy's name has origins from area of Earth's sky in which it appears, the constellation , which itself is named after the princess  who was the wife of Perseus  Greek mythology . A closeup of one of the spiral arm of the Andromeda galaxy.  Visible from Earth’s Southern Hemisphere, the Andromeda galaxy is the brightest galaxy visible in our night sky. And, at  2.5 million light years , it’s the most distant thing we humans can see with the unaided eye .  From mid- northern latitudes, you can see Andromeda for at least part of every night, al...

Saturn 🪐

Image
Saturn is the sixth planet of our solar system, one of four gas giants. This planet is known for its beautiful rings, that were formed around time dinosaurs were living on the Earth. These are made with  small chunks of ice and rock coated with other materials such as dust.  The planet is named for the Roman god of agriculture and wealth, who was also the father of Jupiter.  The Italian astronomer Galileo  in 1610 was the first to observe Saturn with a telescope. In the night sky Saturn is easily visible to the unaided eye  as a non-twinkling point of light. With use of telescope we can observe its magnificent rings.  View from the telescope 🔭  As a gas giant, Saturn doesn’t have a true surface. The planet is mostly gases and liquids deeper into core. While a spacecraft would have nowhere to land on Saturn, it wouldn’t be able to fly through it either. The extreme pressures and temperatures deep inside the planet would crush, melt, and vaporize any sp...

Milky Way galaxy 🌌

Image
Milky Way is barred spiral galaxy with rather large size compare to other galaxies. It’s around 13.6 billion years old, which is one of the oldest galaxies known to mankind (the oldest so far is 13.8 billion years old).  Our “home” contains around 200 billion stars in its self. We all know that Earth rotate Sun and it’s transfers to our solar system and Milky Way. To complete orbit around galaxy it takes about 250 million years. The position of Solar System is 25.000 to 30.000 light-years to the center.  Our Sun lies near a small, partial arm called the Orion Arm, or Orion Spur, located between the Sagittarius and Perseus arms. Lying at the very heart of the Milky Way is a supermassive black hole  called Sagittarius A. About 4 million times the mass of the Sun.  O ur home is called the Milky Way after its milky white appearance as it stretches across the sky. In mythology, this milky band appeared because the goddess Hera sprayed milk across the sky.  On ...
